Forgotten 2017 Review

July 29, 2018

Just had a chance to watch this movie in flight, I was browsing the movies in World Cinema , I came across with this one, when I saw Ha Neul's name I decided settle in with this movie.
It was the right choice, movie starts with a family moving to a new home.
Ha Neul is a boy who is studying for university entrance, least that's what we are being shown, but things aren't what seems to be...

We are being shown a family who are close and two brothers are getting on extremely well,  big brother is taking care of his little bro..
Sort of idyllic
We see a role model brother here, who is good at everything, an example student, good brother, good nearly perfect son, and a brother who admires his big brother.
First I thought it's a horror movie, but no it's a pretty good thriller.
It gives you the taste of a horror movie.
People are very biased about Ha Neul but I like him as an actor, I did like his performance on this one, as well as previous movies, including Scarlet Heart.
It's filled with plot twists, just when you think oo I got it, it's like this, damn in the next scene you see that you are wrong,
I don't want to spoil anything for giving some information because if I tell something I might ruin the entire movie, you get the know the truth just at the very end of the movie.
As I said previously things are not what it looks like.. Not everyone is who they claim to be :)
The film begins with Jin Seok's nightmare and the movie swallows you like a hurricane/ tornado, you don't want to move from your seat.
After the nightmare his brother got kidnapped and he was missing for about 20 days and when he gets back he starts to behave different.
The close relationship in between them is gone and they are now distant to each other,
There are lots of secret codes, such as the brother tells him not to enter a room, and Jin Seok
keeps hearing sounds / noises from that room and he gets curious obviously.
You don't know what's the reality or what's the fantasy (his dreams. subconscious)
Things are going very fast in the movie, so I suggest you to keep your remote control on hand while watching.
Screen writer is always ahead of you in this movie, it's hard to guess the ending.
I have to admit that the character Kang Ha Neul portraying is not an easy one but he portrays is beautifully..
If I have to give a spoiler I'll give two
Jin Seok goes to police station and they asked his birthdate, and the police tells him that so you are 40 years old,  he says no he's only 20 years old, when they asked him the year he says 1997 and everyone starts to laugh and they show him the calendar on the wall, it's 2007 so he's missing 20 years and he doesn't remmeber anything about it..

I have to admit that  not only Ha Neul did a great job also Kim Mu Yeol was quite realistic portraying the brother.

When Seok's brother gone missing mother (Na Young Hee) & father (
Moon Sung Geun) were extremely cold and I couldn't understand why at the time..  You'll understand it at the end :) everything you see will be resolved at the end of the movie.

It's not a romance so no happy ending for all..

I even thought is this a sort of lucid dream of one of the family members while watching.

It's so hard to tell whether it's the reality or the ficitopm

This movie is also available on Netflix

 Happy watching
